Supporting literacy in the community

Within the local community, Sis P and the Fi Wi Sinting Foundation have long supported action in literacy.  Many students have benefited from reading and literacy classes held at the Port Antonio Parish Library as well as at FWS headquaters in Hope Bay.

They keep coming...

While there are no reading workshops being held currently, we have seen an increase in the number of parents seeking support for the children, particularly in the school years where GSAT or CXC examinations are approaching.

Due to severe financial constraints we are unable to commence these workshops at the present time.  However, FWS is embarking on a new project to develop a peer mentoring program focusing on literacy and reading.

We believe that in these times, we must adapt to our native principles of "each one teach one".  We will keep you up to date on how the project develops and announce the commencement of workshops once funding has been secured.
